Sand sifting goby cleaned cyanobacteria off

Got Slim algae (cyanobacteria)? Here comes the rescue

The cyanobacteria problem started about a month ago. I only have six fish in the tank and not a whole lot of feeding going on. Yet I cannot shake that darn slim off of the sand layer.

Last Saturday a light bulb shine on my head when I saw the diamond goby quietly sifting through the sand at the local store. So I scooped him up and decided to give this pretty fish a try! Below is the “before” shot

And here is what the tank looks a week into life with a sand sifting goby:

Thought it is not 100% eradication, I would say the effect is really really good! The goby kept busy and sift through the sand all day long. The only downside- your tank water may become slightly cloudier between the goby clocks in for work and clocks out for the night.

If you have cyano on your rock, this is not going to help. But this will help you with your sand.
